World Boxing connects the powerful federation of China, 5 for its growing membership

World Boxing has added China to its growing list of members, reaching another major goal in its search to maintain boxing in the Olympics.

The new governing body still announced the addition of national associations of Türkiye, Sudan, Greece, Slovakia and Montenegro on Wednesday on Wednesday. In world boxing, now seven months ago, there are 84 national associations amidst their membership after being 37 at the conclusion of the Paris Olympics.

The decision to join the Chinese Boxing Federation is another positive signal for world boxing, which was provided from IOC last month, which was the new governing body for the game before the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

World Boxing President Boris van der Worst said, “The widespread support in our game to add six more members to our growing membership is to give a better future for boxing boxers and ensure that boxing remains in the heart of the Olympic movement.”

World boxing was established in April 2023 in an attempt to preserve the Olympic future of the game after suspending the International Boxing Association in 2019 and in the decades of deportation of the Olympic movement in 2023, scams, bizarre leadership decisions and innumerable financial misconducts.

While world boxing rapidly signed most of the top western associations, fed up with Russian-IBA interactions, the breakway body knew that it would have to face difficulty in landing top associations, which either financially rely on the restricted body, or politically neglected with their dandruff.

China has emerged as a top boxing nation since the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Its team finished second with three gold medals and two silver in the medal table in Paris last year.

Turkey also has a rich federation, with two silver medals and one bronze in Paris.

Guna, with China, now has a strong Asian membership in world boxing including about two dozen members – including the most powerful boxing nation Uzbekistan in the recent Olympics after winning five gold medals in Paris.

Boxing is still not officially on the program for the Los Angeles Games, but Kazakh Boxing Superstar Gennadi Golovakin is leading a World Boxing Commission to strengthen the future of the body in the Olympic movement. The IOC conducted the last two Olympic boxing tournaments, but repeatedly said that a new governing body would have to run the future tournament if the boxing is in the boxing program.
