Gandhi said, “The good thing about Gambhir is that he likes to give the players a fair run and love continuity. Rahul did well when Pant was injured. But I believe Gambhir did not let the pants go without giving a decent hit,” Gandhi said. One can argue that the inconsistency of pants in white-ball cricket stems from lack of clarity about his role.
In 2022, before the Pant was near the deadly accident, India used it at number 4 in ODIs. He won the team in England with an unbeaten century. Head coach Rahul Dravid later ranked an early place in T20I immediately after the T20 WC in 2022 before using it at number 3 in 2022 T20 WC.
