In a video going viral on Instagram, a man has exposed a new Credit card scam At petrol pumps that can empty your bank accounts overnight. “Please don’t use your credit card to pay at the petrol station, and why I will tell you at all”, the man starts. He shared an anecdote of an Indian person, who was traveling to Intercity and stopped at a petrol pump to fuel his car. While paying for fuel, they swipe their card and put it in the correct pin, but the transaction was rejected. He once again repeated the process without any positive results. For the third time, payment was successful.
But a few weeks later, he realized that his card was charged more than one lakh rupees. When he was investigated by them, it was discovered that when he tried to pay at the petrol station, his card was skimmed or duplicated and thus, with the PIN known, the criminals were able to steal money from their account.
In the caption, a person named Santhak Ahuja, who goes to Instagram from handle handle and claims more than 2.1 meters, also suggested some ways to protect himself from such scams, which are growing rapidly in India. He suggested using touchless methods of payment like UPI or TAP. Subsequently, he advised that the scam is taking place at various places, and thus, anywhere you cannot pay with your card, waiting for a notification on your phone, saying that the transactions have been rejected before swiping your card again. If your card is being cloned then you will know. Finally, while living in India, disable international payments on your card, as most of these transactions are made in international places.
