Former Australian batsman Stuart Law has been appointed as the head coach of Nepal’s men’s cricket team for the next two years. He replaces Monty Desai, whose term ended in February after two years. Nepal’s Cricket Association posted on X, “Head coach was appointed. Australian Legend Stuart Law @Slaw365 takes charge of the national cricket team of Nepal men for the next two years!” The law brings with them the treasure of coaching experience, works with many international teams. His most recent role was with the USA men’s team, where he reached him in a historic T20I series win over Bangladesh and one in the super eight of the 2024 T20 World Cup. However, before leaving in October 2024, his term lasted for seven months.

The law has also served as an interim coach for Sri Lanka and Afghanistan along with head coaches for Bangladesh and West Indies. Under his leadership, Bangladesh reached his first Asia Cup final in 2012. In addition, he has served in several coaching positions in Australia, including the role as a batting coach for the national team and working with the under -19 team. As a player, the law represented Australia in 54 Odis and a solitary test match.

His predecessor, Monty Desai inspected the period of stable growth for Nepal. Under Desai, Nepal won the whitewash against the USA (T20 IS) and Canada (ODI) in early 2024. However, his campaigns were challenging in major tournaments. Nepal made its second T20 World Cup appearance in 2024 but failed to win a match. He also started the ODI Asia Cup in 2023, but won home.

The first assignment of law with Nepal will be an important three-series against Scotland and Netherlands in June, as part of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2. Nepal currently sits second in the league 2 tables, leading to an important opportunity to improve the upcoming series.

The vast experience of the law and Nepal’s young, ambitious squad, may be a defined period for the team for the next two years as they aim to progress in international cricket.
