Among the most prevalent symptoms, there were rapid decrease in consciousness, hypoglychemia (low blood sugar), metabolic acidosis (formation of lactic acid in the bloodstream), pseudohypertriglicradirydemia (incorrectly triglycerides) and hypocalemia (low potassium levels), which were published in BMJ Jimes.

“Their blood and urine had a high level of glycerol when they were ill, which disappeared when he recovered. They recovered well, but needed to be hospitalized.”

Researchers concluded that glycerol -containing slush ice drinks are called glycerol intoxication.

Symptoms were not released after the beverage was avoided in most children (95%).

What is glycerol?

“Glycerol is used as a sweetener and some (not all) to maintain a semi-colored texture of ice drinks,” Crisle said.

“This is being used more often as a Chinese option in recent years,” he said. “Large doses can be harmful to young children.”

Krasel said that the effect of the disease suddenly was never reported after consuming a slush drink.

The study had some limitations, the researchers accepted.

“The numbers are small and include only the most sick children that were brought to the emergency departments and referred to for experts in inherited metabolic disorders,” Crisle said.

“They were referred to because their symptoms were similar to some rare metabolic diseases. We do not know the limits of children who can develop fierce symptoms.”

Crishell advised, “The use of the ice machines slided by children in the house should be monitored.” “Parents and parents should check the contents of the syrup used to create a slush Ices in the house for the presence of glycerol and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for use.”

Researchers hope that this new study can lead to the development of new policies and guidance related to glycerol ingestion.
