Former-CIA Director Russia-Ukraine gives ‘credit’ to Trump for talks


Obama’s former Defense Secretary and CIA director Leon Peneteta on Thursday credited President Donald Trump for the “Clean” Russian-Qurean ceasefire deal “probability”.

On Tuesday, State Secretary Marco Rubio said Ukraine had agreed to the 30-day ceasefire by the contingent Trump administration on Russia’s response.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, however, has not yet accepted the deal, and said in a address on Thursday, “The idea is correct, and we definitely support it. But there are issues that we need to discuss.”

Paneta credited Trump to be able to interact on a possible ceasefire deal on “CNN News Central” and urged him to be firm against Putin.

“Look, this is a test for the President,” said Paneta. “Is he going to stand strong to do the right thing or does he cave to be a cave in Putin. And I hope he is strong.”

“He is able to interact on the possibility of a clean ceasefire. It is for his credit,” he continued.

Paneta warned that adding other issues to the talks will “now reduce the ability to achieve ceasefire.”

He said, “The President has to clarify Putin that he has a chance to accept a ceasefire that will stop the murder,” he said. “Let’s do this and then let’s talk about long -term issues.”

Panteta’s comments came soon after Trump said that he would “hope” that Russia would “do the right thing” and will agree to a ceasefire with Ukraine.

Trump told reporters’ moments after Putin’s comment that the Russian President’s statement was “very promising”, but incomplete.

“A lot of details of a final agreement are actually discussed,” said Trump. “Now we are going to see whether Russia is there or not.”

“If they are not, it would be a very disappointing moment for the world,” he said.
