Paul Merchant, head of the fast fashion chain Primark, has resigned with immediate effect after a “decision error” towards a woman in a social status at the end of last year.

Parent-Company Associated British Foods said in a statement on Monday that the merchant had admitted that his works were dropped from the expected standards, and the 14 billion pounds ($ 18 billion) CEO said he was “extremely disappointed”.

In its 15 years of primer, Merchant increased the operational gains of over one billion pounds four times, which was more than doubling the footage of its store for more than 450 shops in 17 countries across Europe and the United States.

Primer, established in Ireland and with a large appearance on the British high roads, contributes about half the revenue and profit of the group for foods, which also owns major grocery, sugar, agricultural and material businesses.

The original company shares were trading below 2% on Monday, this year the expansion of the loss was 7%.

CEO George Weston said, “I am extremely disappointed. In ABF, we believe that high standards of integrity are essential.”

“Acting responsibly is the only way to manufacture and management of a business long -term. Allies and others should be treated with respect and dignity. Our culture should be larger than any person.”

Merchant collaborated with an investigation, started by AB Foods and operated by external lawyers, “in allegations made by a person about his behavior in a social environment.”

Merchant accepted his “error of decision” and admitted that his work “fell down from the standards required by ABF,” said this.

A spokesman for AB Foods said that the woman’s allegation and the related incident were “towards the end of last year”, the company received the lawyers report “recently”.

The spokesperson refused to reveal the nature of the indiscretion of the merchant or to reveal that if the woman concerned was a primer employee.

AB Foods said the merchant had apologized to the concerned women, the group’s board and their primer colleagues and others associated with the business.

It said that the group would continue to support the woman who brought her behavior into mind.

Interim primer boss

“, This is really, a very disappointing, at least, to end for Sri Merchant and all primer and ABF, where they have oversee a great value-based retailer with strong possibilities for development,” said noise capital analyst Clive Black.

Barclaylage analysts stated that the leading primer was one of the top roles in the UK Retail and possibly a lot of interest from potential candidates.

“But we don’t think the primer is in a crowd to fill the zero until they find the right person to take charge,” he said.

AB Foods, which cut its annual sales guidance for primer in January, is due to publishing first-half result on 29 April.
