Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and German-based Deutsche Bahn have expressed interest in handling the operation and maintenance of 118.9-KM Chennai Metro Rail Charan II project under large scale in the city.
The ₹ 63,246-Crores II project involves handling three corridors in one of the largest contracts-SIPCOT from Madhavaram, Light House to Poonamleli, and Madhavaram to Sholinganallur-Shollinganallur-Train services, maintenance of stations, and controlling the operation control center.
According to Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) officials, the tender was swimming last year, and now, both firms have presented their bids for the project.
“In Charan I Project, we outsourced station management alone, and were given to a firm. With step II, we want to cut cost and improve efficiency. Therefore, we have decided to hand over the entire operation and maintenance to a firm, ”an official said.
“It takes some time to finalize the contract. It may take a month or two to choose the lowest bidder and signed a contract, ”the official said.
Sources said that they had invited some more international players to participate in the bidding process, but unfortunately, it did not have sexual intercourse. He said that it may take some time for the firm to set up facilities here before the launch of the first train services. Therefore, it is likely that CMRL will manage the operation itself when the first service begins in the corridor 4 of the second phase project between Poonamali and Porur.
DMRC’s participation with Chennai Metro Rail began almost a decade ago when it served as a consultant during the initial phase of the Phase I project. Subsequently, as the DMRC network expanded rapidly, it made its scope broaden and entered the operation and maintenance contracts, said another official said. He said, “He obtained the Colaba-Bandra-Sepz Metro Line 3 contract of Mumbai Metro Rail some time ago.”
Meanwhile, Dutash sister received a contract to manage and operate the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) in the National Capital Region.
