David Marcus: Canadian faces Trump’s tariff as confusion

NewNow you can hear Fox News article!

I came home from a church Mission Yatra, did not get off the plane in Calgary before two youths, asking me what is happening to President Donald Trump’s aggressive, again, again, tariff in north of our neighbor.

“I like Trump,” one of them told me, but I do not understand why he is doing this for Canadian people. “

What was killed by me, he did not ask why Trump was doing this for Canada, or soon to the Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, but for Canadian people.

Trump Tariffs, Annexation Talk: Canadian people feel ‘under the economic attack’ on the ambassador

After talking to them, and more Canadian around Calgary on Saturday, I began to understand that even though Trump feels that tariffs are trading strictly, the Great White North’s Denies of Great White North are clearly taking it individually.

Signs on the way in the city urged Canadian people to boycott American goods. There was a somewhat confusing indication over a store, which said, “Our Orange Cheatos does not impose tariffs,” and even Canada’s Liberal Party moves forward to take the name of a new Prime Minister this week, tariffs are at the top of everyone’s minds.

Calgary has an active and fun nightlife. The sound of the 8th Avenue SW under the shadow of the famous tower, restaurant lazimi and flames vs. Canadins Hockey Game, spread the sound of bars on the road.

James Joyce Restaurant and Pub is a classic Irish joint. Under the sign, it says, “Since 1882,” not because the bar is old, but because it is the year of the birth of a great novelist, a subtle drama on the words that he must have enjoyed. Once inside, I got more.

Kelly is in her 60s and retires. He likes the place because there is no TV in it, and when he realized that I was American, I did not have to bring a tariff, he did, “Trump is not doing anything, it seems rational,” he told me.

Kelly also said that the “trade war”, as said here, revived nationalism in Canada, which was keeping in mind the recent hockey games against the US. “Now we have our elbow,” he said.

I asked if this situation is harming the conservative politicians, especially the Pierre Polywere, who would run for the Prime Minister for the Orthodox Party. He looked at the sky, shook his head a little and said, “Oh, yes, much more. It’s a problem.”

Here in the conservative province of Alberta, Kelly was not happy about it.

Later in the evening, I met David O’Brien, who came to Calgary almost a decade before Ireland. “You have to understand,” he said in a lilating Brief, “The cost of living here is out of control. That is why so many people hate Trudeau, but it makes the tariff even more scary.”

He said that Canada is incredibly divided into an incredible politically, but teasing about tariffs and trump that it has become a kind of national unity about becoming a 51st state. “There are some that I know about joining America, but I think they know that it is not real, it’s more about the tragic situation of cases in Canada,” he said.

For its share, the state-controlled Canadian news media is on cursing all Trump and their tariffs, and it is absolutely wide. Imagine a country that basically has every news channel MSNBC and you get very close to Canada’s position.

One thing that is important to understand is that in the US, or “Down South”, as they call it here, the Canada Tariff is behind the newspaper and in the D block of the news show. After all we have Ukraine war, Trump’s fight with bureaucracy, and our own economic concerns have to struggle.

In Canada, this tariff is the only story to penetrate the news cycle, and the Americans who see less than a difficult trade talks, many Canadians see as an unexpected betrayal from a nation that they always place among their nearest colleagues.

So far, what I can tell, the confusion and disappointment over the tariff position in Canada has not turned into anger, not at least towards American people. But the tension on the relationship is clear and quite clear.

Trump’s relationship between our two countries can be fundamentally not only the next four years of the presidential president, but also the next four months, from business to a language, share everything in the sports league.

Is this change positive remains for our and Canadian relations, but today’s mood in Canada is not very optimistic.
