Indian cricket team, fresh from its historic Champions Trophy Triumph, headed in a break from international cricket. With the 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Rohit Sharma -led side will now be seen in action during the upcoming England Tour, slate to be in June. However, former India batsman Navjot Singh Sidhu has advised the team to start preparing for the tour as soon as possible, pointing out the recent struggles of Rohit and his men in Red-Ball cricket. Talking to the sports tax, Sidhu highlighted the challenges waiting for India during the five -match Test series.
“The matter of being worried is that the IPL is coming forward now. No one is ready to sit out of the IPL. They will play the league and then suddenly come on a tour of England. Shift from the northern pole to the south pole. India’s last Test series in England will start completely. Adequate agitation.
India failed to qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) final after a huge defeat to Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in January earlier this year.
Sidhu warned that India needs to find solid replacement for all-rounders and white-ball experts Hardik Pandya and Exer Patel in the mid-order.
“England are ready at home in their conditions and are like injured tigers. They have been beaten and defeated. India’s biggest problem is that there are no all-rounders in the middle order that you see in white ball cricket. There is a Ravindra Jadeja, or Hardik Pandya or Axar Patel.
The cricketer-turn-commentator also said that India would need to choose their bowlers without compromising on the depth of batting.
“For this you have to depend on a person like Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, perhaps Arshdeep Singh. You have to bring a mystery spinner with all those who are England’s weakness. But India will not expose Varun Chakraborty. Either he will save Kutra. In front of India,” Siddhu said.
