Indianapolis – Nolan Winter and John Tonje scored 18 points to lead the number 18 Visconsin for a 70-63 win over Northwestern in the second round of the Big Ten tournament on Thursday.
Bazes (24-8), seed fifth, will face the number 4 Seed UCLA in Friday’s quarter-finals.
Winter hit 4 out of 5 shots and 9 out of 10 free throw.
Nick Martinelly led the number 13 seed wildcats (17–16) with 22 points. Jordan Clayton added 10 points to Northwestern.
Eight points leading, Wisconsin’s Max Classmit hit the 3-pointer to promote 53–42. Kamari McGi then took a lead of 56-42 with a 3-paper with a lead of 8:58 with the remaining. Two and 3-pointers by Tonje gave the edge of 62-46 to the bacteries.
Baszers shot 42% from the ground, holding Wildcats up to 37%.
Free throws were around 22 with wildcats, while 18 out of 23 were from Bazes Line.
Wisconsin took a 37–30 lead in Haftime. Both teams shot 39% in the first half. The difference was that the beders made 12 out of 15 free throw compared to 6 out of 7 for wildcats.
Northwestern: With 18 points in the second half, Wildcats continued to stretch to reduce the final deficit. Wildcats closed the game with 12–2 runs.
Wisconsin: Baszers shot better in the second half and performed only 10 turnover in total. Wisconsin had a 17–5 lead from the turnover.
The 50–42 lead, Classmit’s 3-Poanter started 14–4 runs, leading to 64–46.
After leaving 3 out of 12 from the 3-point range in the first half, Visconsin drown 5 out of 13 3-pointers in the second half, consisting of four in a row in a major stretch.
Visconsin will play the number 4 Ced UCLA in Friday’s Big Ten Quarter Finals. Northwestern will wait for a potential NIT or college basketball crown dialect.
