Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang is expected to reveal details about the next AI graphics processor Rubin of Chipmaker at the company’s annual GTC conference on Tuesday.

While other technical companies usually name their products using unqualified letters and numbers, most recent GPU architecture of NVIDIA is named after famous women scientists.

Nvidia is naming his next important AI chip platform after an American astronomer Vera Rubin.

The company has never explained its naming conference, and has not emphasized the diversity aspect of its choice, but NVidia’s chip names are one of the most visible efforts to honor the diversity in the technical industry during a time, which highlighted women and minority scientists, where diversity, equity and inclusion, or DEI, is being slashed by Trump Administration.

Rubin discovered a lot about “Dark Matter”, which is a type of case that can make a quarter of the universe case and who does not emit light or radiation, and advocated women in science throughout his career.

NVIDIA has been naming its architecture after scientists since 1998, when its earlier chips were based on the company’s “Fahrenheit” microarcate. It is part of the company’s culture-Nvidia used to sell an employee-cavalry T-shirt with cartoons of many famous scientists on it.

It is one of the quirks of Nvidia, which has been paid more attention because it has become one of the three most valuable technology companies and is one of the most important suppliers for Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Open, Tesla and Meta.

Investors want to hear on Tuesday how fast Rubin Chips will be, which configuration will it come and when can it start shipping.

Before disclosing a new architecture, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang usually gives a one-vocal biography of the scientist, named.

Huang said at last year’s GTC conference, “I want to introduce you to David Blackwell, Mathematician, Sports Theorist, A lot, very large GPU in the name of probability.” “We thought it was an ideal name.”

Rubin is a fitting name for Nvidia’s next chip, which tries to strengthen the profit made as a leader in AI hardware in recent years. “Vera” will refer to Nvidia’s next generation central processor, and “Rubin” will refer to the new GPU of Nvidia.

Born in Philadelphia in 1928, Rubin studied deep space and worked with other scientists to develop better telescope and equipment that could collect more detailed data about the universe. In 1968, according to a Nova documentary, he began observing Andromeda Galaxy and gathered the data that would increase the understanding of the science of our universe.

His primary claim for fame came when he saw how soon the galaxies roam.

Rubin said in 1987, “It was estimated that the stars near the center of a galaxy would revolve very fast, and the outside stars would run very slowly.”

But Rubin felt that she was seeing that external stars were moving quickly, unlike expectations. They were not going out of the classroom, which meant that scientists were not observing a large scale – to confirm the concept of dark matter.

She was acclaimed during her lifetime, published more than 100 letters and held three advanced degrees, but she still faced discrimination due to her sex. At the beginning of his career, Rubin was not allowed to collect his data, and some observatories did not allow women according to the documentary.

Rubin died in 2016. In 2019, a state -of -the -art telescope in Chile, Vera C. Rubin Observatory was named after him. According to Poplis, a biography was edited on the website of Federly-Funded Observatory to remove details about their advocacy for women in science earlier this year.

“I hope you like your work because I like to do astronomy,” Rubin said at a beginning address in 1996. I hope you will fight injustice and discrimination under all its guise. ,

Rubin is not the first woman who has been awarded an NVidia chip named after her.

Prior to Blackwell, who was the first Black American to join the National Academy of Sciences, Nvidia’s most advanced AI chip family hopper, named after the American computer scientist Grace Hopper, who coined the word “bug” to refer to the computer glitter. In 2022, Nvidia released its “Eda Loveless” architecture, named after the British mathematician, who led the Computer Algorithm in the 19th century.

Scientific names used to be a secondary naming conference, took a back seat for the actual product name, and mainly appeared in marketing copy. NVIDIA users are more often referred to for “H100” chip or marketing names for consumer graphics cards such as Geforce RTX 3090.

But last year, Huang insisted that Blackwell was not a single chip, it was a technology platform, and Nvidia quickly began using the word “Blackwell”, which refers to the company’s latest generation AI products, such as its GB200 chip and DGX server racks.

Maintenance

Now investors and analysts track how many “hoppers” are in use, and big companies argue about early access to “Blackwell”.

It is important for Nvidia to achieve the final-name familiar levels similar to the Rubin Hopper and Blackwell.

The company’s sales exceeded its financial 2025, ended on January, to the company’s hopper chips to $ 124.62 billion for durable sales and early demand for the company’s blackwell chips.

To increase growth, Nvidia needs to give the next generation chip that justifies its cost and improves the cost of the previous generation, power efficiency and ownership.

According to an investor presentation, the company has targeted 2026 for a rollout of Vera chips. In addition to Vera Rubin, Nvidia is expected to discuss an updated version of the Blackwell Ultra, its Blackwell Chips, hoping analysts that the company will start selling later this year.

Huang also teased during an earning call last month that he would show “Next Click” after Vera Rubin. That architecture will also be named after a scientist.

Melius Research Analyst Ben Retzes wrote in a note on Monday, “These products should encourage the participants at the conference from Microsoft to Dell to Sovereign, which will usually please investors.”

Tuesday’s keynote speaker will also be tested for the relatively new release rhythm of Nvidia, where it attempts to reveal new chips on an annual basis. Investors would also like to see if NVIDIA can continue to affect technical critics and developers while releasing new chip families on a sharp schedule. Blackwell was announced last March, and its sale began to appear in Nvidia’s October quarter.
