NBA News: Oliver Miller dies on 54


Oliver Miller, known as “Big O” during his sports days, died at the age of 54.

Miller was a beef center that helped Arkansas to pursue the last four before playing nine seasons in the NBA.

Miller was struggling with brain cancer.

Miller, who weighs 6 feet, 9 inches and about 300 pounds, was a standout in Arkansas by 1988–92. He took an average of 12.2 points and 6.5 rebounds in four sessions, leading to the final four of the 1989–90 team of Nicemith Hall of Fame Coach Nolan Richardson before losing to Duke and earned the Southwest Conference Player of the Year in 1991.

He was also a part of the Phoenix Sun Team that lost in the 1992–93 NBA finals at Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls.

Miller’s former teams paid tribute.

Arkansas said in a social media post, “We are very sad about the passage of Arkansas veteran Oliver Miller.” “A prominent member of the 1990 final four team, an SWC Hall of Famer, the first round NBA Draft Pick and a true avatar of the Razorback Spirit. We love you. Our views are with his family.”

The raptors, who he was in a roster in Toronto long ago, said, “He holds a special place in our history as a member of our inaugural team in 1995, and we are very grateful to all his contributions. We send our deep condolences to the Miller family.”

Miller was drafted by Phoenix with a overall pick of number 22 in 1992. He made an average of 7.4 points and 5.9 rebounds for Sun, Detroit Piston, Repater, Dallas Maveryx, Sacramento Kings and Minnesota Timberwells.

He also played in Europe, with the Continental Basketball Association, United States Basketball League and Harlem Globtrars.
