Charlotte, NC – Duncan Powell scored 15 out of 21 points in the second half, Bay Nedongo and Nathan George organized the late rally by defeating number 9 Seed Virginia 66-60 on Wednesday in the second round of ACC tournament at double-dobb and number 8 Seed Georgia Tech.
Georgia Tech was the first win in the series with Virginia since the 68–64 victory in Atlanta on 9 January 2016.
Georgia Tech (17–15) will play top seeded Duke in the quarter-finals on Thursday, who wants to avenge the loss of 82-56 to the then. 5 Blue Devils on 21 December.
Powell made nine direct Georgia Tech Points, including the baseline jumper, with 7:52 with 51–41 left. NDONGO scored the next four points for the Yellow jacket, Jaeden Mustaf added two free throw, and Powell made a shot in the lane and made it 59–46 with 2:57.
Virginia Guard Isaac McCeni led the return with a return to one minute. He created a long 3-pointer with 46.4 seconds and George missed the front end of each. After a timeout, Jacob Kofi was left open to a sting to pull cavaliers within 62–57 with 35.7.
Kofi forced a turnover to play 33.4 seconds remaining inbounds and McClli drowned another 3-pointer within 62–60. George made two free throw at 19.1 for a four -point lead.
MCKNEELY knocked the ball out of his hands on a drive for the basket and George added two more free throw to seal it.
NDONGO ended with 16 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks for Georgia Tech. George scored a triple-dabble with about 13 points, 10 rebounds and eight assistance.
McClli had 27 points and seven 3-pointers for Virginia (15–17), who won 13 directly in the series.
Georgia Tech Coach Demon Stodmyer hugged an extended hug with Virginia interim coach Ron Sanchez in Midcourt after the game.
