In 2021, IOC issued a revised policy recommendation that individual sports bodies were asked to implement certain parameters with special attention to “promoting gender equality and inclusion” when establishing policies.

For the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, IOC rolled out the “framework” policy on fairness, inclusion and non-discrimination based on gender identity and gender variations. Framework included damage, no estimates of damage, no estimates, evidence of profit, evidence-based approach, priority and physical autonomy, stakeholder-centric approach, privacy and rights of periodic reviews.
