OnePlus Drops ‘Alert Slider’: Does it paves the way for a customized smart button


OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has officially confirmed the company’s plans to replace the prestigious alert slider, a feature that has been synonymous with OnePlus smartphone over the years. This decision has long been estimated, now Lau has been made public through a community post, which implicated the change in the form of “development” rather than a removal. However, for many dedicated OnePlus users, the news marks the end of an era.

Over the years, alert slider is an identity of OnePlus devices, allowing users to tolerate between sound profiles – especially a feature useful in meetings or cool settings. Its expulsion is set to disappoint loyal OnePlus fans, who appreciated the convenience of its offer.

LAU admitted that emotional attachment to many users writing this, “I know this is a big change. And I know it is not easy to accept it. The alert slider holds a special place in the hearts of our community, and we don’t take it lightly. But we really believe that this is the right step.”

While he insists that this feature is being developed rather than abandoned completely, it is widely believed that OnePlus 13 will be the last model to incorporate a traditional alert slider.

Is OnePlus running on the footsteps of Apple?

The innings firmly suggests that OnePlus is taking inspiration from Apple, which has recently introduced an action button on its iPhones. Originally, OnePlus adopted an alert slider from the iPhone, and now it appears that the company is ready to move towards a multicolored button similar to Apple’s latest innovation.

In his post, Lau indicated on a “smart button”, which would provide users more control and adaptation options. He has “described it as an innovation which is not just smart but easily yours.”

“The new smart button is designed for the future that provides more personal experience. Imagine a button that suits you. Whether you are a power user or likes simplicity, this button works for you, not in another way, ”he said.

This suggests that OnePlus users may soon be able to assign the button many tasks, such as launching cameras, controlling information, tagging the flashlight, or activating other custom features – like the action button of the Apple.
