The vegetarian plate cost was seen by 1% year after year in February.

In some relief for the common man, the cost of a vegetarian plate cooked in a house declined year-on-year in February, according to the latest monthly indicator of the food plate cost of Crisil, RRR (Roti Rice Rice). The report stated that the cost of a non-vegetarian plate, although the rise in the prices of the broiler (chicken) increased by about 6%. The cost of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian thalis came down on the basis of month-by-month.
Calculating the preparation cost of an average plate at home by Crisil consider input prices in various regions of India. Monthly variations reflect effects on everyday domestic expenses. The analysis tracks the value movements of the required ingredients including grains, pulses, broilers, vegetables, spices, edible oil and cooking gas.

  • In February, the vegetarian plate saw a decrease in cost compared to the previous year, while the non-vegetarian plate saw an increase in the prices of high broilers.

  • Crisil says that this decline would have been more enough if onion (11%), potatoes (16%) and vegetable oil (18%) are not for increased prices.

The increase in non-vegetarian plate prices was mainly due to a 15% year-year increase in the prices of the broiler (chicken). The broiler (chicken), which is about 50% of the cost of a non-vegetarian plate, saw the increase due to the low base line of the previous year when the prices fell due to oversupply.

Additionally, high feed expenses contributed to overall cost growth, as a result of an increase in maize prices 6% year-on-year.
During the month, the cost of both vegetarian and nonvegetarian thali decreased by 5% compared to the previous month. This deficiency was attributed to fresh supply due to the price fall in onion (7%), potatoes (17%), and tomatoes (25%). Additionally, the prices of broiler (chicken) fell into an estimated 5% month-month due to lack of demand in southern India.
