1983 to 2025: List of ICC tournament won by India

India on Sunday defeated New Zealand by four wickets to win the 2025 recurrence of the Champions Trophy in Dubai, adding their third win at the eight-team event to add the seventh ICC Trophy to their cabinet. India has been one of the best teams in world cricket, which involves entry into the clashes of the Summit in the 2003 ODI World Cup, 2017 Champions Trophy, 2023 ODI World Cup and has included twice in the final of the World Testing Championships in 2019–21 and 2021-23 cycles.

Overall, Australia is the most successful team that won the ODI World Cup six times (1987, 1999, 2003, 2007, 2015 and 2023), once won the T20 World Cup in 2021, to calculate its trophies at the Champions Trophy twice in 2006 and 2009 and once in the 2021-23 cycle.

PTI takes a look at the ICC tournament won by the Indian team in the past:

1983 ODI World Cup: With India’s first win at a global cricket event, Kapil Dev’s team proved their subtlety against all obstacles and brought down the powerful West Indies, who had won the competition twice in a conference at the lower scoring summit at Lord’s.

2002 Champions Trophy (shared with Sri Lanka): Despite the co-script of the 1996 ODI World Cup, India fell short under crushed conditions in the semi-finals and bent out with a resolve to be better. Under the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly, the team entered the final unbeaten, but on 29 and 30 September (Reserve Day) continuous rains in Colombo forced India and hosts Sri Lanka to share the trophy.

2007 ICC World T20: At a time when no cricket board including India took the lowest format seriously, a young squad made history under a young leader in MS Dhoni when he finalized the stressful rival Pakistan in a stressful final to win in the inaugural edition of the competition.

2011 ODI World Cup: There was a lot of pressure on the Indian team to end a long and elusive wait for the ODI World Cup Trophy. Dhoni’s team, along with Sachin Tendulkar, fulfilled his mission as a blasphemy of all eyes when he defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets in the final in Mumbai to win his second 50 -over World Cup after waiting for 28 years.

2013 Champions Trophy: When Dhoni’s leadership and his reputation as India’s most successful captain came for ICC events, a concrete boost was received when his side defeated England in a rain-cutting final in Edgbaston. In a low scoring competition in which Ravindra Jadeja’s 25-ball 35 pushed India to 129/7, Dhoni’s strategic acumen jointly won five runs with talent in the field.

2024 T20 World Cup: On the verge of retirement in the smallest format with their two biggest superstars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, India was desperate to end another drought to win an ICC event every time every time, despite being a favorite in every competition.

It worked very hard, for Rohit and head coach Rahul Dravid had to bring out the players with the disappointment of losing the 2023 ODI World Cup at home a few months ago. Once again, the best team in the competition, India beat South Africa by seven runs to win the trophy for the second time.
