President Donald Trump was asked in his Super Bowl interview whether he trusts Elon Musk as his Department of Government Efficiency presently has unprecedented power in the administration deciding how much of the administration to keep and how much to let go to save money. Despite speculations that Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s mutual admiration won’t have a long life, both have praised and admired the other in public. As Fox News asked Donald Trump whether he trusts Elon Musk, the president was surprised that he was asked this question.
“Trust Elon?” Trump cross-checked. “Oh, he’s not gaining anything. In fact, I wonder how he can devote the time to it. He’s so into it,” Trump said asserting that nothing stops DOGE’s chipping machine and after the US Agency for International Development (USAID) which Elon Musk and Donald Trump confirmed would be shut down, they would move on to other departments. Trump said Elon Musk would check the education department in the same way and then there’s the military to be scrutinized.
“I ran on this and the people want me to find it,” Trump said.
What has Elon Musk’s DOGE done so far?
DOGE came up with a deferred retirement program for all the federal employees asking them to resign now and enjoy the salary and other benefits till September. Otherwise, all federal employees will have to report to their respective offices.
DOGE got access to the federal payments system to check government spending.
Elon Musk’s DOGE suggested shutting down USAID.
Several lawsuits have been filed against DOGE and their latest actions.
As other departments are waiting to be examined by DOGE, Donald Trump said he directed the treasury department to stop the production of pennies as it is wasteful.
Despite backlash, lawsuits and controversies, a new CBS News poll revealed that voters actually approve of Trump’s handling of the presidency. About 70 per cent of poll respondents said that what the president is doing is in line with his promises in the campaign.
